FAQ’s
Frequently Asked Questions?

What is a mental health evaluation?
A mental health evaluation is a structured, clinical assessment used to understand your emotional, cognitive, and behavioral health. It helps identify potential conditions such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, or mood disorders—and guides the development of a personalized treatment plan.
Who should consider getting a psychiatric evaluation?
If you’ve been feeling persistently anxious, low, overwhelmed, irritable, or disconnected—or if your thoughts and behaviors have changed and you don’t know why—an evaluation can provide much-needed clarity. It’s also helpful if previous treatments haven’t worked, or you’re unsure of a current diagnosis.
What happens during the evaluation?
Your provider will walk through a clinical interview, review your personal and family mental health history, discuss any current medications, and may include psychological screenings or questionnaires. The process is thoughtful, confidential, and never rushed.
How long does the evaluation take?
Most evaluations take between 45 and 90 minutes depending on complexity. We take the time needed to truly understand your concerns and ensure an accurate diagnosis.
Will I receive a diagnosis right away?
Not always. In some cases, the provider may need additional information, testing, or follow-up to make a precise diagnosis. However, you will leave with a clearer picture of your mental health and a plan for next steps.
What if I’ve already been diagnosed before?
That’s completely fine. Many patients come to us with previous diagnoses or treatments that haven’t been effective. A fresh evaluation allows us to confirm, clarify, or adjust your diagnosis so your care is more aligned and effective.
Is the evaluation covered by insurance?
Yes, most major insurance providers—including Medicare and Tricare—cover psychiatric evaluations. Our team can verify your benefits beforehand so you know exactly what to expect.
Will I be prescribed medication after the evaluation?
Only if clinically appropriate—and always with your input. Medication may be one option, but it’s not the only one. We also consider therapy, lifestyle changes, and other interventions based on your specific needs.
